CM Sangma felicitates top schools, launches education infrastructure project in South Garo Hills

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday felicitated top-performing students and schools of South Garo Hills while also launching key educational and environmental initiatives aimed at long-term development in the region. In a ceremony held in Baghmara, CM Sangma presented certificates of appreciation to three schools for their consistent academic excellence in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations over the past three years. Students who performed exceptionally well in the recent Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams were also honoured.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister encouraged the students to remain focused and contribute meaningfully to the development of Meghalaya. “May they continue to work hard and contribute to our beautiful state,” Sangma shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. In a parallel effort to promote environmental stewardship, CM Sangma distributed cheques under the MegLIFE initiative to local communities and landowners. The scheme incentivizes the conservation of forest resources while supporting livelihoods. “This initiative not only supports sustainable conservation efforts but also provides livelihoods for landowners, giving back to those who help protect our natural heritage,” the Chief Minister stated.

Adding to the day’s achievements, CM Sangma laid the foundation stone for a Rs 7 crore infrastructure project to construct a new building for Capt. Williamson Memorial Government Higher Secondary School in Baghmara. The facility is expected to significantly improve the learning environment for students in the region.
