KSU Stages Protest in Shillong During Amit Shah Visit; Demands ILP Implementation

As the 73rd Plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) progressed, members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) staged a demonstration today along the roadsides, holding placards and banners to voice their long-pending demands to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, who was attending the summit. The primary objective of this protest was to remind the Central Government of several issues, especially the demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to protect the state of Meghalaya, which the Center has failed to approve to date. Four missing Jorhat minors found in Shillong hotel, handed over to police and families

Four minors reported missing from Jorhat were traced and recovered from a hotel in Police Bazar here on Monday, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said Tuesday. “Yesterday we received information that four children — two males and two females — had gone missing from Jorhat,” SP Syiem said. A team from Sadar Police Station and the Women Police Station launched a search and recovered the children from JK International Hotel, Police Bazar. The minors are aged between 16 and 17 years. A 26-year-old male adult was also found with them, police said. “During enquiry, the missing girls informed that they were friends and the other two children are cousins,” Syiem said. “They came on 31.05.26 and came for sightseeing without telling their parents.” A police tea...

73rd North Eastern Council planery session to be attended by Amit Shah

Union DONER Minister, governors and chief ministers of all the Northeastern states will also discuss issues related to the development of the region. The MDA government has rejected claims that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department violated norms to award Rs 1,900-crore projects to a firm from outside Meghalaya, with Cabinet Minister and government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla asserting that the tender process was transparent and criteria-based. Over 30,000 explosive detonators seized in Jaintia Hills

Meghalaya Police arrested two persons during a late-night naka checking operation in East Jaintia Hills district and seized 30,000 explosive detonators. According to a press release issued by East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Raksania, the interception took place at around 2:30 am on May 13 at 2 Kilo in Umkiang village under the Umkiang PPP naka point. Police stopped a suspicious white Hyundai Eon bearing registration number AS-10-A-5916 that was heading towards Silchar from Meghalaya.
