No bias in Rs 1,900 Cr PHE tender, rules followed: MDA spokesperson

The MDA government has rejected claims that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department violated norms to award Rs 1,900-crore projects to a firm from outside Meghalaya, with Cabinet Minister and government spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla asserting that the tender process was transparent and criteria-based. Addressing allegations of favouritism, Shylla said every allotment under the department goes through a defined tendering framework. “For any tendering process, for any allotment, there are certain sets of criteria or credentials. Over 30,000 explosive detonators seized in Jaintia Hills

Meghalaya Police arrested two persons during a late-night naka checking operation in East Jaintia Hills district and seized 30,000 explosive detonators. According to a press release issued by East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Raksania, the interception took place at around 2:30 am on May 13 at 2 Kilo in Umkiang village under the Umkiang PPP naka point. Police stopped a suspicious white Hyundai Eon bearing registration number AS-10-A-5916 that was heading towards Silchar from Meghalaya. During a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered 30,000 explosive detonators concealed inside two carton boxes and a gunny bag. 183 cases settled in Lok Adalat in Shillong

Altogether 183 cases for a total amount of Rs 1.35 lakh was settled in a National Lok Adalat organised in Meghalaya High Court and all districts of the state on Saturday. A total of 625 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat. “242 pre-litigation cases and 383 pending cases were taken up for settlement,” the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority said in a statement.
