Night Curfew In East Khasi Hills Amid Bangladesh Border Security Concerns

Amid security concerns arising from the current situation in Bangladesh and continued vulnerability of certain stretches of the frontier, the East Khasi Hills district administration has imposed a night curfew along Meghalaya’s border with the neighbouring country. The night curfew was declared on Tuesday by the District Magistrate from 8 pm to 6 pm, effective immediately, within a one-kilometre radius from the Zero Line. The curfew was imposed, invoking powers under Section 163 of BNSS. Bharat Bandh: Meghalaya-Assam tourist taxi associations suspended services

Tourist taxi services between Assam and Meghalaya were suspended on Wednesday as part of a nationwide 'chakka jam' called by central trade unions and national federations. The All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) had earlier announced that no tourist taxi will operate from Meghalaya to Guwahati or any other part of Assam on July 9 in support of the nationwide strike. The 24-hour strike is aimed at pressing several key demands affecting transport workers nationwide. These include withdrawal of the Motor Vehicle Reforms Act 2019, scrapping of the 'Hit and Run' clause under Article 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), an immediate halt to satellite-based toll collection, and protection of transport workers' rights, the association said.

Northeast states demand 25% increase in devolution share from 15th Finance Commission

Four Northeastern states have sought a 25 per cent increase in the devolution share over the 15th Finance Commission period and a special infrastructure fund. Sangma, Mizoram CM P Lalduhoma, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and officials of Sikkim government presented the state’s key demands and concerns during a consultative meeting with members of the 16th Finance Commission in New Delhi.
