Police on Friday registered a suo motu FIR at Rynjah police station against five top leaders of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) for attempting to forcibly shut down the Director’s Administrative Block at NEIGRIHMS. The five HYC leaders against whom the FIR has been registered are Roy Kupar Synrem (president), Donboklang Kharlyngdoh (vice president), Rhembor G Saibon (general secretary), Issac W Basaiawmoit (secretary), and Enlang Sawian (education secretary). The state government has announced the constitution of an all-party committee consisting of recognised and registered political parties to discuss railway connectivity in Meghalaya, prompting the KSU, which has remained firm on its demand for ILP before introducing railways, to respond sharply. According to a notification issued on Wednesday by Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang, the committee will be chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma or any minister appointed by him. “All political parties are requested to nominate two representatives for the committee. After more than 18 months since its formation, the expert committee tasked with reviewing Meghalaya’s state reservation policy is set to submit its report on April 12. Confirming this, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang stated that the report will be submitted to him on that date. The Meghalaya government appointed retired Madhya Pradesh High Court judge, Justice Mool Chand Garg, as the Chairman of the Expert Committee in August 2023 to lead the review process.
