NEHU student bodies urge staff to reject orders from absent leaders

Student organisations at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) have urged non-teaching staff to disregard directives from top administrators who they claim are leading the institution remotely in violation of governance norms. The NEHU Students' Union (NEHUSU) and Khasi Students' Union (KSU) have formally asked the university's non-teaching staff association to ignore any orders from Vice Chancellor Prof. PS Shukla and Registrar Col. Omkar Singh, citing their prolonged absence from campus. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday announced the release of the final installment of ₹85.08 crore under the Post Matric Scholarship scheme for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. The amount will be credited to students' accounts within 1-2 days. The disbursement, part of the "Umbrella Scheme of Post Matric Scholarship for ST Students," will benefit 27,327 students for the 2023-24 academic session. This marks the completion of the phased scholarship distribution that began last June.
