Rs 35 crore for Meghalaya Games but no food for journalists

The inaugural ceremony of the 6th Meghalaya Games, which took place in Jowai on Tuesday, was dominated by VIP culture, as journalists were denied food despite covering the event till late hours. The journalists reached Jowai in the afternoon after covering the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new secretariat at Umsawli in New Shillong Township. After lunch, the journalists attended the Meghalaya Day celebrations in Jowai and covered  the opening ceremony of  Meghalaya Games at Wahiajer in the evening. The Meghalaya Games went beyond 8 pm but no food was provided to the journalists, who reached Shillong around 11 pm . It may be remined that the cost of holding the 6th Meghalaya Games is around Rs 35 crore.

Legal action to will be taken against villagers who vandalised RKM School

The villagers who broke into the Ramakrishna Mission ME School construction site in Mawkynrew on Tuesday could face legal actions, according to the authorities. A senior police official said the villagers’ action is tantamount to contempt of court as a case relating to the school is pending in the High Court of Meghalaya. BJP alleges JJM anomalies in Meghalaya, demands CBI probe

The BJP has called on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into claims of anomalies in the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme implementation in Meghalaya. BJP leader Bernard Marak claimed the state government submitted false reports to the Centre on the progress of the scheme. According to him, the official claims that most villages in Meghalaya now have access to water are misleading. The state claims that most villages have water, but our findings revealed there are no tanks, no intact points, and no distribution systems,” Marak said. He said contrary to the official reports, 90 per cent of the villages out of a surveyed 100 are not receiving water.
