Meghalaya CM distributes M-Tab to students in Garo Hills

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Speaker Thomas A. Sangma presented M-Tab (learning tablets) to West Garo Hills students on Tuesday during a function at the District Auditorium in Tura.The M-Tab is an initiative of the Chief Minister’s Student Digital Learning Scheme, which aims to promote e-Education in the state.  The tablet is loaded with comprehensive contents related to Higher Secondary level examination for all streams, including contents, mock question papers, past question and solved answer papers for various competitive examinations. Meghalaya: 11 shops gutted in Williamnagar

At least 11 shops were gutted in a massive fire that broke out early on Tuesday morning in Williamnagar. The blaze, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, started around 5 AM and took several hours to douse off completely. Upon receiving a distress call, a Police Control Room (PCR) team promptly reached the scene and began firefighting operations. Despite their response, the fire destroyed 11 small business establishments. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported as the shops were closed at the time.Authorities have initiated a damage assessment to determine the extent of the losses.

Eight students from Meghalaya bag Rs 1 crore scholarship

Eight students from Meghalaya have been awarded prestigious full scholarships under the Talent Identification Programme (TID), a collaboration between the Directorate of School Education and Literacy, Meghalaya, and the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad. The scholarships, each valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, will support the selected students' education from Class VI through Grade 12 at the Aga Khan Academy, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. The TID programme was first conducted in the financial year 2022-23 and again in 2024-25. In each phase, four students were selected based on their exceptional academic abilities, bringing the total number of beneficiaries from Meghalaya to eight students. Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma aids Assam tourists injured in accident

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh demonstrated prompt action and compassion on January 12, when they stopped to assist two Assam tourists injured in an accident at Mawkdok while returning from Sohra. The Chief Minister’s on-duty doctor provided immediate medical attention to the injured individuals at the scene. An ambulance was also arranged to transport the victims to a nearby hospital for further treatment. According to officials, the condition of the injured tourists is stable, and they are expected to recover fully. The quick intervention by the Chief Minister and Health Minister was widely appreciated by locals and tourists alike.

Meghalaya raises minimum wages for workers

The Meghalaya government on Friday raised the minimum wages of skilled and unskilled workers.The decision was taken at a special cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, in Sohra. The wages of highly-skilled workers were raised from Rs 586 to Rs 645 per day, skilled workers will now get Rs 605 instead of Rs 530, the wages of semi-skilled workers were revised to Rs 565 from Rs 474, while unskilled workers will get Rs 525 instead of Rs 419 per day.
