Alert troops of the 172 bn Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya on Thursday apprehended six Bangladeshi nationals while they were attempting to cross over the IB to Bangladesh from East Jaintia Hills.The arrests were made during a search operation based on specific inputs.  In addition, during several other operations in East Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills, a substantial haul of illegal goods was intercepted, including cattle, sugar, blankets, liquor, and other contraband items. The total value of the seized items was estimated at Rs 13.54 lakh.

Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh distributed educational tablets to Class XI students at a ceremony held at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Wednesday, marking a significant step towards integrating technology into education. The Union Ministry of Railways has stated that the proposed railway project will be terminated if Meghalaya cannot proceed with it in the near future. “He (the minister) gave a strong statement and indication that if we are not able to move forward, then this particular project, which runs into thousands of crores of rupees and has a huge economic impact for our state, will have to be cancelled,” said Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma who met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently in Delhi. Meghalaya Chief Minister Cnrad Sangma inaugurated the Indoor Sports Hall at Lummawbah in East Khasi Hills on Wednesday. The Sports Hall was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.55 Crore. The chief minister thanked former Minister and MLA of the area Hamletson Dohling for proposing and completing the project as needed by the community. It was informed that the indoor complex will help the youths in the area and promote sportsmanship among them.

The inaugural ceremony of the 6th Meghalaya Games, which took place in Jowai on Tuesday, was dominated by VIP culture, as journalists were denied food despite covering the event till late hours. The journalists reached Jowai in the afternoon after covering the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new secretariat at Umsawli in New Shillong Township. After lunch, the journalists attended the Meghalaya Day celebrations in Jowai and covered  the opening ceremony of  Meghalaya Games at Wahiajer in the evening. The Meghalaya Games went beyond 8 pm but no food was provided to the journalists, who reached Shillong around 11 pm . It may be remined that the cost of holding the 6th Meghalaya Games is around Rs 35 crore.

The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has added two more candidates for the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, scheduled for February 21, 2025. The villagers who broke into the Ramakrishna Mission ME School construction site in Mawkynrew on Tuesday could face legal actions, according to the authorities. A senior police official said the villagers’ action is tantamount to contempt of court as a case relating to the school is pending in the High Court of Meghalaya. He also said the acting Sordar of Mawkynrew Dorbar Pyllun, Kitborlang Mukhim filed an FIR on Monday into the incident where the villagers tried to forcefully enter the site of construction of the RKM ME School. The BSF Meghalaya apprehended five Bangladeshi smugglers and successfully thwarted various smuggling attempts along the international border.On Monday, troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier successfully apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals and thwarted multiple attempts to smuggle various contraband items to Bangladesh through the international border. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the 200th Battalion BSF troops launched an operation in South Garo Hills and apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, who have been identified as Md. Sakibul Basir (20), Adnan Mahamod Rohim (22), Sojib Ahamed (17), Md. Sakib Hussain (19), and Md. Saju (27), all residents of Mymensingh district, Bangladesh.
