At a ceremony held at the Tura District Auditorium on Monday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma laid the cornerstone for the Greater Tura Urban Water Supply Scheme.Speaking at the event, Sangma said, "This project was first mentioned in 2004, about 21 years ago, when I was contesting the by-election in Selsella. It was conceived in 2004–2005 with the late P. A. Sangma, who envisioned that it would help tourism, agriculture, and fisheries in addition to addressing the water issues that metropolitan Tura was facing at the time." Meghalaya vendors’ to stage sit-in Shillong from today

The Meghalaya Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors’ Association (MGSPHSVA) will stage a sit-in demonstration outside the office of the Shillong Municipal Board starting Friday. The decision to demonstrate followed the expiry of a two-day deadline the association had set for the provisional Town Vending Committee (TVC) to convene a meeting to discuss their issue. The association wrote to the office of the provisional TVC to hold the meeting or face a stir. The association is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the public notice issued by the non-existent TVC and cancellation of all actions taken by it, starting from the process of claims and objections and the creation of an eligible list of hawkers and street vendors to be issued vending certificates.
