NEHU student bodies urge staff to reject orders from absent leaders

Student organisations at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) have urged non-teaching staff to disregard directives from top administrators who they claim are leading the institution remotely in violation of governance norms. The NEHU Students' Union (NEHUSU) and Khasi Students' Union (KSU) have formally asked the university's non-teaching staff association to ignore any orders from Vice Chancellor Prof. PS Shukla and Registrar Col. Omkar Singh, citing their prolonged absence from campus. According to the student bodies, Prof. Shukla has been on leave for 127 days since November 15, 2024, and his attempts to resume duties remotely from Delhi are "arbitrary and against established rules." Similarly, they argue that Col. Singh has not reported back to the university since taking leave...

Meghalaya and its neighboring areas were lashed by heavy rain, hailstones

Severe rain, hail, and strong winds battered Meghalaya and its surrounding regions, causing widespread disruptions. Residents were taken aback by the weather shift because the area's typically verdant scenery was momentarily white. Mawlai was particularly affected by the storm, as trees and high-tension cables were brought down along the main FCI Road. This led to power outages in a number of areas, including Kynton Massar, Nongmali, Mawlai Pata, and Mawlai Mawroh. Power lines between the 11 KV Mawroh a...
