Crude oil futures gain on spot demand

New Delhi: Crude oil prices rose by Rs 16 to Rs 5,579 per barrel in futures trade on Friday as traders increased their bets following strong spot demand. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, the price of crude oil contract for September delivery rose by Rs 16, or 0.29 per cent, to Rs 5,579 per barrel in a business turnover of 13,135 lots. Analysts said crude oil prices rose in futures trade as participants increased their bets. Globally, West Texas Intermediate crude was trading 0.29 percent higher at $63.65 per barrel in New York, while Brent crude rose 0.16 percent to $67.78 per barrel.

India’s foreign exchange reserves gain to USD 695.1 billion: RBI

Mumbai: India's foreign exchange reserves rose by USD 1.488 billion to USD 695.106 billion during the week ended August 15, according to RBI data released on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the overall reserves had risen by USD 4.747 billion to USD 693.618 billion. Foreign currency assets, a key component of the foreign exchange reserves, rose by USD 1.924 billion to USD 585.903 billion in the week ended August 15, according to the data. Expressed in dollars, foreign exchange assets include the impact of appreciation or depreciation of non-US units such as the euro, pound and yen held in the foreign exchange reserves.
