Budget Session of Meghalaya Assembly Scheduled from Feb 16

The Budget Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is scheduled from February 16 to 27, 2026. Following a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, Speaker Thomas A. Sangma announced that the session will comprise 10 working days, allowing adequate time for legislative business. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma will present the Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on February 20. The schedule allocates three days for private members’ business while dedicating the remaining days to government business. Addressing previous concerns regarding time management, measures have been implemented to facilitate smoother proceedings, including potential flexibility in sitting hours. On voting days for supplementary demands, the Assembly will sit until 3 PM, with extensions possible. Speaker Sangma dismissed rumors of a postponement, affirming that the session will occur as scheduled and noting that the timing was influenced by the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council polls.
