Two prominent aspirants for the BJP ticket in the Dispur constituency, incumbent MLA Atul Bora and Jayanta Das, have publicly expressed their discontent with the party leadership, specifically targeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, for selecting Pradyut Bordoloi as the candidate for the upcoming elections. Bora, a six-time MLA since 1985, voiced his disillusionment, asserting that the party’s approach represents a betrayal of his long service and contributions. He emphasized his historical electoral success, having defeated three Chief Ministers, and criticized the party for importing candidates instead of valuing committed long-term members, stating, “Today, there is no environment to work in the BJP.”
Bora condemned Bordoloi’s political shift from being an MLA in Margherita to attempting to represent Dispur, fearing that such opportunism undermines the loyalty of constituents. Similarly, Jayanta Das criticized Sarma for neglecting dedicated BJP supporters in favor of newer entrants like Bordoloi, accusing the Chief Minister of corruption and mismanagement, including claims of a mafia-like operation within the state. Das declared intentions to establish a new party to unite disgruntled BJP workers statewide, reflecting a broader discontent among party ranks.
In a related development, Nihar Ranjan Das, a BJP MLA from Dholai, resigned after being denied a ticket, citing his contributions to the party and his disappointment at not receiving recognition. His resignation underscores the growing unrest within the BJP as it navigates candidate selection ahead of critical elections, illustrating significant friction between established members and the party leadership.
