
At Hahim, located along the Assam–Meghalaya border in the Sabyasachi Rabha Coordination Area, the Rabha Students’ Union, Rabha Women’s Council, and the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee held their day-long biennial convention on Thursday. During the representative session held in the afternoon, the previous committees were dissolved and new committees were constituted, followed by oath-taking and assumption of responsibilities.The formation of the new committees for a two-year term was attended by several dignitaries, including Hiteshwar Rabha, Assistant Secretary of the All Rabha Students’ Union; Montu Rava and Namal Kumar Rabha, Vice Presidents of Kamrup District Rabha Students’ Union; Organising Secretary Ankur Rabha; Assistant General Secretary Jiten Rabha; Kalpanath Rabha, Vice President of the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee; Sadhana Rabha, Vice Chairperson of the Women’s Council; Secretary Mallika Rabha, along with many distinguished personalities from Kamrup district.
Speaking to the media, Namal Kumar Rabha stated that Hahim, being a backward and sensitive region along the Assam–Meghalaya border, requires special attention. He added that these organisations have been working tirelessly to maintain harmony among various communities residing in the area, ensuring peace and contributing to local development. He further said that since Hahim is the birthplace of Sabyasachi Rava, founder General secretary of the All Rabha Students’ Union, the regional bodies of the Students’ Union, Women’s Council, and Sixth Schedule Demand Committee are committed to the holistic development of the region.
The biennial convention, which began in the morning with flag hoisting, homage to martyrs, and plantation of saplings, concluded with the election of new committees. Through the election session, Bishay Rabha was appointed President and Mithun Rabha General Secretary of the Hahim Regional Rabha Students’ Union, along with a full-fledged committee. Similarly, Prashanta Rabha was elected President and Basishtha Rabha General Secretary of the Hahim Regional Sixth Schedule Demand Committee. The Hahim Regional Women’s Council elected Anupama Rabha as President and Bonti Rabha as General Secretary, along with a complete committee. Notably, during the oath-taking ceremony held in the evening with Rabha Language by Newly Elected Bodies.
