Ahead of GHADC polls, Conrad Sangma urges unity and discipline within NPP

National People’s Party (NPP) national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the party’s readiness for the forthcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections during an address at the Betasing party office in Southwest Garo Hills. He called on party leaders and members to uphold unity and discipline in order to foster sustained development within the state. Sangma underscored the government’s dedication to grassroots development and inclusive growth specifically in the Garo Hills region, encouraging party members to enhance organizational efforts and maintain strong connections with the local populace.

Addressing ongoing challenges faced by the GHADC, such as salary backlogs and administrative disruptions, the Chief Minister revealed that the state government has taken proactive measures by forming a committee to engage in dialogue with the Member of District Councils (MDCs) and employees. This initiative led to the release of advance royalty shares aimed at clearing salary arrears and ensuring timely payments. Furthermore, during the event, Sangma launched the NPP Calendar 2026 and distributed sports equipment to various villages, highlighting the party’s outreach efforts and commitment to encouraging youth participation in sports. The meeting gathered considerable local support, with notable attendees including Marcuise N. Marak, Minister overseeing multiple departments, and several MLAs representing different constituencies. The presence of local party leaders and workers signified the meeting’s importance within the district’s political landscape, reinforcing the NPP’s position leading up to the elections.
