5-year vision to make PDS accesible to public launched in Meghalaya

The Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), today inaugurated a landmark workshop aimed at developing a five-year vision document for the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in the state. The event was graced by Coming One Ymbon, Minister of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, who emphasized the state’s commitment to ensuring food security, transparency, and efficiency in line with the National Food Security Act (NFSA). In his address, minister stated: “This workshop is not just a meeting-it is a platform to reflect on where we stand, understand why efficient PDS matters for every citizen, and chart a clear path toward making Meghalaya a model state in food security.”

The workshop brought together Deputy Commissioners, senior officials, and key stakeholders, including experts from WFP, to deliberate on strategic priorities, challenges, and innovative solutions for strengthening TPDS. The discussions focused on: Improving last-mile delivery and beneficiary coverage Leveraging technology for PDS transformation Strengthening of capacities for Stakeholders Institutional convergence with agriculture, health, and rural development sectors, Social Justice, allied departments. Highlighting the importance of the partnership, the Minister acknowledged WFP’s global expertise in food security. The workshop also reviewed Meghalaya’s current status of implementation of NFSA. The visioning exercise will culminate in a 5-year comprehensive roadmap by early 2026 for a progressive Meghalaya.
